NASA’s open-source mission-design system for trajectory modeling, optimization, navigation, and mission analysis from low Earth orbit to deep space.

About the Project

Why use this?

GMAT supports mission design, optimization, and navigation across flight regimes from low Earth orbit to lunar, libration-point, and deep-space missions. It includes high-fidelity space-system models, optimization and targeting, scripting and programming interfaces, customizable plots, reports, and data products.

Aerospace engineers choose GMAT when they need an enterprise-grade, open-source mission-analysis environment rather than a lightweight orbital-mechanics library. It can be operated through a GUI, its custom script language, or Python and Java interfaces, making it suitable for real mission support, engineering studies, education, and public engagement.
