OpenAQ
Fighting air inequality through open data.
An open-source, open-access platform that aggregates, harmonizes, and serves global ground-level ambient air-quality data through an API.
About the Project
Why use this?
OpenAQ aggregates data from hundreds of sources worldwide and harmonizes it on a centralized, trusted, open-source data platform. It provides fine-grained physical measurements rather than aggregated Air Quality Index values, including PM2.5, PM10, SO2, NO2, CO, O3, black carbon, relative humidity, and temperature.
Environmental engineers use OpenAQ when they need global, historical, and real-time air-quality observations for monitoring, epidemiology, policy analysis, model validation, and public communication. Its REST API provides resource-oriented URLs, standard HTTP responses, and JSON-formatted data, making it straightforward to integrate into Python, R, and web-based analysis workflows.
