OpenSees
The Open System for Earthquake Engineering Simulation
A finite-element framework for simulating the nonlinear dynamic response of structural and geotechnical systems under earthquakes and other hazards.
About the Project
Why use this?
OpenSees is a software framework for simulating the dynamic response of structural and geotechnical systems. It was originally developed for performance-based earthquake engineering at the Pacific Earthquake Engineering Research Center and is now used to study structural response under fire, wind, earthquake, tsunami, and storm-surge loading.
Structural engineers choose OpenSees when they need advanced nonlinear analysis rather than a conventional linear elastic design tool. It supports fiber and distributed-plasticity elements, material and geometric nonlinearity, soil-structure interaction, reliability analysis, and scripting through Tcl and Python, making it especially powerful for research, seismic assessment, and performance-based design.
