pandapower
An easy to use open source tool for power system modeling, analysis and optimization with a high degree of automation.
A Python library for power-system modeling, power flow, optimal power flow, state estimation, short-circuit analysis, and grid optimization.
About the Project
Why use this?
pandapower provides validated equivalent-circuit models for lines, transformers, switches, loads, generators, and other grid elements. Engineers can build networks programmatically in Python and run power-flow, optimal-power-flow, state-estimation, short-circuit, and topology-analysis studies.
It is particularly strong for distribution grids, DER integration, smart-grid research, and automated planning workflows. Its Python-native design makes it easy to combine with pandas, optimization libraries, Jupyter notebooks, and machine-learning pipelines, which is why it is widely used for renewable-grid and smart-grid research.
