SU2
SU2, Multiphysics Simulation and Design Software
An open-source C++ and Python suite for solving PDE-based multiphysics problems and PDE-constrained aerodynamic design optimization.
About the Project
Why use this?
SU2 is an open-source collection of software tools for solving partial-differential-equation analysis and PDE-constrained optimization problems on unstructured meshes. Its CFD solver handles direct, adjoint, and linearized solutions of the Euler, Navier-Stokes, and Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes equations, with support for compressible and incompressible flow, heat transfer, and non-ideal gases.
Aerospace engineers choose SU2 when they need not only flow analysis but also gradient-based shape optimization, adjoint sensitivity analysis, and high-performance multiphysics simulation. It is widely applicable to aircraft, propulsion, automotive, marine, and renewable-energy problems, and its modular C++/Python architecture makes it suitable for research into new numerical methods and design workflows.
